Michael Gallup is slowly but surely returning from the torn ACL that ended his 2021 season.

He may not be ready for Week 1. Cowboys fans couldn’t get their hopes up for that.

The good news is they will probably see him in a suit again before week 5 as he doesn’t start the season physically unable to performed on the list.

Michael Gallup injury update: Cowboys WR won t continue PUP

Jerry Jones confirmed to the media on Wednesday that Gallup will not be on the PUP list.

The argument for putting him on the PUP list is that it would open up a roster spot as Dallas cuts preseason. However, if he’s on the roster, he won’t be able to play the first four games of the campaign.

The fact that he’s not listed means he could be back before the Cowboys take on the Chargers in Week 5. Games against the Buccaneers, Bengals, Giants and Commanders are now on Gallup’s table, although the first two games are more uncertain than the latter

Gallup dealt with injuries in the offseason but signed a new five-year, $62.5 million deal. Last year, he finished with 445 yards and two touchdowns in nine games for Dallas.

The Cowboys trusted him so much, giving him a career-high 1,107 yards and 6 touchdowns, but his production has declined every year.

Getting him back from injury early is certainly a goal, but it’s more important to get him back at full speed.
