Cult Gaia designer Jasmin Larian Hekmat has been known to turn heads with her beach resort looks, so it’s only natural that her Pre-Fall collection will once again focus on resort style. This year, Hekmat focused on what she calls a “harmonious blend of sea and land” — incorporating natural, earthy elements into a delightful assortment of sundresses and suits.
Emphasizes lively pastels. Pink Puff Sleeve Melancho Suit – Does anyone love Barbie? — can be dressed up for dinner, and the blue jersey dress is even more sexy with asymmetrical cutouts at the hip and shoulders. Her most ambitious design is the Arya gown, made of crystal cord that reveals the shape underneath—a look that certainly wouldn’t be a wallflower.
She made a big splash at night. A ruffled halter dress with draped strands of pearls looked as much jewelry as it did ready-to-wear. A gold starfish bra top can be worn with black evening trousers or jeans and heels. Even this rendition of the classic LBD gets extra oomph with an oversized brass button on the front.
To complete all these looks, Hekmat was of course interested in bags – a signature of the brand. One style features a pearlescent clutch inside a larger clear box clutch. The sleek crossbody bag also features a shoulder strap embellished with thick wooden beads. Certainly better than a battered raffia beach tote.
