Snowfall star Damson Idris will join Brad Pitt in Apple’s Formula 1 movie.
The filmmakers behind Top Gun: Maverick are reuniting for the project, with Joseph Kosinski ) will direct and produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer. Ehren Kruger, one of the writers on Maverick, will pen the screenplay.
Seven-time Formula 1 champion Sir Lewis Hamilton is also producing under his Dawn Apollo Films banner. Bruckheimer and Chad Amman will produce for Jerry Bruckheimer Films with Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. Formula 1 and its teams and the FIA (Federation Internationale Automobile) also support the project. Penni Thow serves as executive producer.
According to the project’s synopsis, the project will see Pitt as “a former driver returning to the sport. Damson Idris joins as his teammate.”
Apple is currently working with Pitt and Plan B Entertainment on a Jon Watts-directed film starring Pitt and George Clooney.
As mentioned, untitled Formula 1 movie will be in theaters Theatrical, exclusive — and worldwide — run at least days before heading to the Apple TV+ platform. The tech giant has Cannes Killers of the Flower Moon and Ridley Scott Napoleon listed as upcoming films, and has been Gearing up to release more films in theaters. Apple is partnering with Paramount to release Martin Scorsese’s Flower Moon in October.
Idris starred in the popular FX series Snowfall, a role that earned him two Nominated for an NAACP Image Award. His other credits include episodes of Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone, and Netflix’s sci-fi action flick Outside Wires . He is represented by CAA, M88 and Hansen Jacobson.
