In Chinonye Chukwu’s Till, lead actress Danielle Deadwyler takes on the role of a very Challenging role. In the project, the cast portrays the true story of Mamie Till-Mobley – an American educator who, after the lynching of her 14 year-old son Emmett Till, swore Advocate against racism and bring those responsible to justice. “The magnified love and beauty of Mamie Till drew me [for the role],” Deadwyler told Vogue. “Her love for dear Emmett is felt across the globe; contributing to the timeless lessons of love, community and joy as justice is very special.”
At last night’s 2023 SAG Awards, Deadwyler was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in this poignant film (she was also nominated for BAFTA and review Home Choice Award nomination). While it was certainly an honor to receive the acknowledgments, DadeWiler said the spirit of her on-screen character will live with her after the Hollywood ceremony. “Mamie’s legacy lives with me and all of us every day,” Deadwyler said. “Devotion and discipline defined her life. Beauty was what she was inside and out, a practice. These elements of her disciplined all my interactions with people and how I envisioned my future.”
