Like Berlin, which the designer describes as entering a “teenager” phase, Arnika is maturing. In the spring, she consciously refined her vision and applied her craft techniques and pattern-making in a more mature way, breaking with the stereotypical club look associated with Berlin. “There’s a lot of this Y2K fad going on right now and I don’t want to be one of those people. I also grew up early s. …of course I’m affected by it too, but it’s not me as a person,” she said on the call.

The first look was a “goddess” dress that circled the body sensually, the result of what she called intuitive pattern-making. “I draw a shape on a piece of paper, cut it out, put it on my body, and see more or less where it takes me,” she said. “I don’t want to show off the female body for it; I use it more as a stencil or canvas. I use it as a means to show my creative pattern-making skills in some way.” Designer and her Internship She also serves as a fit model.

Having a pink dress from the collection is a miracle in itself, and a touch of the designer’s signature tailoring technique A classic example, this is a deliberate distress. “All the samples were done by hand, so I was standing in my studio in Berlin with my hob and draped everything over the dummy, [and] I wanted it to be more of a fabric, It’s not just a technique. It’s a little lace-like, and it’s [kind of] sheer, while still being completely covered,” she explained. To be fair, in this collection, Arnika has the idea of badass elegance—badass is the designer’s favorite adjective—while still delivering the look of a club.

“Berlin and summer are definitely a vibe,” she says of the more casual pieces. The designer deflated the nylon down jacket she made last season to create a lighter piece. She also used industrial materials for evening wear, undermining any sense of preciousness. Regarding fabrics, Arnika uses only dead stock and sustainable materials, stating that “there is no other point.” 
Arnika is well aware that her bias-cut pieces are not It must be an everyday look, and she’s right about that. “I like to say that what I do is experimental norm, because I love having people wear my pieces; that’s why I do what I do,” she said. “But I think it’s also nice to know that people want to take the next step, take a leap of faith, and wear something more experimental.” For them, Sia Arnika is sure to succeed.
