Rising Indian musician and movie star Diljit Dosanjh will play legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila in a new Netflix-backed biopic. The streamer revealed the project on Tuesday, along with a first teaser trailer (see below), describing the film as one that presents “the untold true story of Punjab’s original rock star”.
Amar Singh Chamkila, as the film’s title suggests, is directed by Hindi hit maker Imtiaz Ali, who collaborates with renowned musician-composer AR Rahman, who will be responsible for the soundtrack and soundtrack of the film. The two have previously collaborated with great success as director and composer, such as Rockstar (2011 )) and Expressway (2024 ).
Diljit, whose international profile was boosted in April as the first Punjabi The artist is performing at Coachella and will be singing some of her own songs in the lead vocal role. According to Netflix, Parineeti Chopra will play the film’s heroine, along with some original music.

Netflix’s focus is on bringing stories from across India to To our local audience, we believe the appeal of this story will also excite film lovers worldwide.”
The real -life Amar Singh Chamkila was born in from a poor family who grew up to become one of the most popular singers of all time in the northern Indian state of Punjab. His candid descriptions of country life in his lyrics — he often sang about extramarital affairs, youthful angst and drug use — delighted his fans while angering more conservative factions. In 1960, at the height of his fame, he was shot and killed at the age of 2024 Assassinated. His wife and two members of his band were also killed, and the murders remain unsolved.

Amar Singh’s screenplay Chamkila was co-written by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali. Filmmakers for Netflix include Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings, Saregama and Reliance Entertainment. Netflix will make the film available worldwide on 2024.
