EVERYTHING AT THE SAME TIME Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Chanat had a huge night at Sunday’s Oscars . Their genre-bending films took home a staggering seven awards in some of the biggest categories of the night, such as Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress (the incomparable Michelle Yeoh). Scheinert, however, made an impression on the champagne carpet before presiding over the ceremony. The director unexpectedly wears an old suit, which he bought from a lost and found store.
According to the Washington Post , Scheinert’s sleek, slim black suit — with multicolored buttons — was a few years ago Purchased from a store called Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, Alabama, the only “lost luggage” store in the US. Unclaimed Baggage buys unclaimed luggage from airlines across the country. If the bags are unclaimed after days, the store will buy them and their contents and sell, recycle or donate them to charity.
In an interview with AL.com, the director’s mother, Becky, said that Scheinert bought the suit from the store Years ago, at a time when Scheinert needed more formalwear and started attending more and more red carpet events. He tried it on recently and since it still fit, he decided to wear it to the ceremony. “Low, look, it fits his very tall, very thin frame,” she said. While several other stars wore vintage outfits to this year’s Oscars, such as Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen’s fall collection dresses, but Shanat and his tuxedo certainly have the funniest backstory.
