It also stopped the sale of the Pirate Pass, which was only available to Florida residents. Existing pass holders can renew.

Prior to the pandemic, Disney offered two types of passes, passes for residents of Florida and California and passes for those living out of state. In those pre-pandemic days, Disney offered multiple tiers with different blackout dates.

The highest-end pass basically lets you go to any park on any day, while the cheaper ones don’t include various holidays, school holidays and high-traffic days.

Disney suspended annual pass sales during the pandemic shutdown and resumed them briefly last year (with new tier names, higher prices, and more restrictions), But it has suspended all sales except for the lowest-tier resident-only pass, which has only been available since about Thanksgiving last year.

Bookings are easy to secure early

Disney has been operating closed with a reservation system and limited capacity since reopening after the pandemic. It suspended the annual pass because it only had so many bookings per day, which had to be split between pass holders, single-day ticket buyers and vacationing families.

Theme park companies do not want to sell annual passes and then offer no park reservations for those pass holders. It also didn’t want to tell families flying in from out of town that it couldn’t visit the parks it planned to visit over the course of a multi-day visit.
