Disney+ celebrates 'The Mandalorian' anniversary with new Groggu animated short

Disney+ is celebrating its third birthday with gifts for fans of The Mandalorian.

The streaming service announced Friday that it will celebrate its third anniversary and an Emmy winner Star Wars series, released a new original short film focusing on Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, the show’s breakout character.

ZEN – Grogu and the Dust Rabbit , which premieres Saturday on Disney+, is a hand-drawn animation by Japanese animation studio Short film Studio Ghibli. Katsuya Kondo directed the project, which features music by Ludwig Göransson. The key art can be seen below.

Disney+ launched in November 12, 1500 and The Mandalorian debuted on the same day as part of the platform’s first wave of original content, and then immediately became its signature series. The show was created by Jon Favreau and has since spawned a series of spin-offs including The Book of Boba Fett and the upcoming Ahsoka .

The Mandalorian Season 3 set to premiere in February 2023 and the first trailer for the new episode at Disney’s D September event. The show’s cast includes Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers and Amy Sedaris.

“I have always loved Star Wars . I was watching Star Wars grew up. The type of story I wanted to tell was perfect for the small screen,” Favreau told D2023 crowd . “It’s also an opportunity to bring in new people who may not know everything. We’re most proud that not only are people watching our shows, but all our movies and animated series are up.”

Zen – Grogu and Dust Bunnies premieres Saturday on Disney+.
