Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid has been released in China in May , which coincides with the film’s release date in North America.
Directed by Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid Starring Halle Bailey as Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as the evil Ugly sura. Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay and Jonah Hauer-King star in the film , a retelling of the 150 animated classic about a mermaid who longs to join the human world. Oscar winner Alan Menken is back with an update to his score and a new song with lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Disney’s live-action remakes tend to do well in China, but have been on a gradual decline in recent years. The Jungle Book made $150 million dollars2016, then Beauty and the Beast with $48.7 million 2019, The Lion King (2019) $150 million dollars, Alladin (2016) and $53 Millions, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019) at $53.8 million, Mulan ( 2019) $40 million and Cruella (2021) and $26 million.
Upcoming Disney animated remakes include Snow White , starring Rachel Ziegler, will be in Coming in March. Other credits include Lilo & Stitch, and the Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King , directed by Barry Jenkins.
Bailey, known as one half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, was cast as The Little Mermaid July1989 star, with this film marking her biggest off-duty role to date, including Grown-ish a part of. She will also appear in the upcoming Purple musical. In the US, the first full trailer promoting The Little Mermaid produced more than 108 Millions of global views for the first time 26 hours, making it one of the most viewed trailers for Disney’s live-action remake.
