Birds of Prey star Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Breakout Xochitl Gomez signed Starring in Ursa Major , the new sci-fi thriller from brothers directors Jonathan and Josh Baker (Kim).
Winstead and Gomez will play Charlie and Natalie, mother and daughter battling for survival on an Earth-like planet from a horde of ruthless hunters , with an imminent threat of a deadly storm approaching. But now teenage Natalie has begun to question her mother’s decision, her explanation of who was there, how they got here, and what they need to do to survive.
The Baker Brothers will direct Ursa Major from an original script by Emmy nominated HBO Max series creator Patrick Somerville Eleven Stations , co-authored Ursa Major with Colleen O’Brien and Katie French. Somerville will be producing the film with his Station Eleven partner David Eisenberg via Tractor Beam. Other producers include Lost City’s John Finemore, MXN Entertainment’s Mason Novick, and Artists First’s Allen Fischer and Brian Steinberg.
James Hoppe and Jack Byrnes of Lost City will co-executive production with XYZ Films, responsible for global sales, to introduce the project to buyers in Toronto International Film Festival next week.
Winstead recently played the titular character opposite Woody Harrelson Kate in the Netflix action film of the same name, and Known for her roles in Birds of Prey , Gemini Man and Scott Pilgrim vs. World and her starring turn in the third season of FX Fargo opposite Ewan McGregor.
Gomez to play American Chavez in Disney/Marvel blockbuster Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness And played the lead character of her breakthrough role in the Netflix series The Babysitters Club .
Baker Brothers’ film debut is featuring Kin, starring Jack Reynor, Zoe Kravitz, Dennis Quaid, James Franco and Myles Truitt, based on their 2015 short film Bag Man . 2022
Lost City’s most recent project is Chloe Okuno’s 2022 Sundance Title Watcher, published in the US by IFC Midnight.
In addition to Ursa Major, XYZ’s TIFF market list also includes sci-fi features Ash starring Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt; Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton’s play Blackberry ; and Mads Mikelsen-starrer The Black Kaiser.
