Dodgers news: Clayton Kershaw praises former teammate ahead of NLDS

Dodgers pitcher gram Layton Kershaw knows Padres infielder Manny Machado very well

MLB brotherhood cannot be underestimated, even if it means praising opposing players in the NL West. Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw knows greatness when he sees it, and he doesn’t hold back when it comes to his former teammate Manny Machado.

Machado spent the second half of a season with the Dodgers in 2018 before finally signing with the Padres on a massive 10-year, $300 million deal . Leaving was enough for Kershaw to know how great Machado is and still continues to be great (via Marty Caswell, quoted by MartyTimeTV).

“I have always respected Manny when he was playing with us and now coming here to play with us he’s always been, he’s just a great player. You can build around him because you know he’s going to serve every day and he’s a lot like ours Freddy, he serves every day, gets on the court, plays great defense, makes big hits.”

A six-time All-Star in his 11th season in the league, he still doesn’t look like he’s going to slow down anytime soon. Machado is hitting 32 homers and 102 RBIs this season with a .298 batting average, all numbers good enough to make him a sixth All-Star.

“I think he’s just a great player. I think he can get out of bed and hit .300 and hit Golden Gloves defense…I don’t know much about their clubhouse, but do feel like he might have more of a leadership role and is friendly and I think there’s a bit through him, at least that’s how it looks from the other side.”

Respect has remained at an all-time high level, but in the playoffs, Kershaw is all about business. If this is the last time Kershaw faces Machado in his career, he will do whatever it takes to stand out.
