At the AWAKE Mode spring 2023 show in Paris this morning, a golden figure appeared in the front row: rapper Doja Cat painted from head to body Gold body painted toes (perhaps a cheeky nod to Margaret Nolan, the Bond girl in the James Bond movies, Goldfinger) . It was the star’s bold beauty statement, though it certainly wasn’t her only one during Paris Fashion Week. All week, the star has been taking major beauty risks and creating memorable moments with her makeup choices — each one more extravagant than the next.
Doja is dedicated to looking beautiful. She recently shaved her head and eyebrows, and the sleek look became a blank canvas for her clever makeup during fashion week. It started simple: At the Vivienne Westwood show, she debuted a graphic, zig-zag eye look done by makeup artist Laurel Charleston (whom she painted with Danessa Myricks Beauty Colorfix and Vu Studio’s Black Taboo Eyeliner). At Thom Browne, she also paid homage to the fashion house’s signature red, white and blue stripes – a stripe of paint (Charleston used MAC’s acrylic paint) on her chin.
The more shows Doja gets on, the wilder and more experimental her beauty choices get. On the Monot show, Doja went alien fashion with a completely blue face. Charleston started with Ben Nye Makeup’s oil-based pigments and setting powder, then used MAC’s Art Library palette and Viseart’s editorial highlight palette to outline the face. At Givenchy, makeup artist Sophia Sinot also proved the power of statement brows and lips: she styled Doja with pearlescent brows and striped lip shades in nude and black. These are certainly not wallflower hunts – but it’s fashion week, and what better time to take whimsical risks?
Here are more moments from Doja Cat’s Paris Fashion Week.
