Domínguez’s HR helps Yanks pull off rare sweep of Astros
HOUSTON — “The Martian” made himself right at home in “Space City,” helping the suddenly youthful Yankees to a rare sweep of the Astros at Minute Maid Park.
Jasson Dominguez connected for his second Major League home run, a two-run blast in the sixth inning, as the Yankees rallied for a 6-1 victory on Sunday evening.
It was New York’s first three-game sweep of Houston since Sept. 27-29, 2013, a set that marked the final games on the active roster for Bombers legends Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte.
Domínguez’s go-ahead homer came off Houston starter Cristian Javier, who had limited New York to a Gleyber Torres single over the first five frames.
DJ LeMahieu doubled home Oswaldo Cabrera with the tying run before Domínguez teed off on a slider, launching a 358-foot drive over the right-field wall. Domínguez also homered on Friday, swatting a Justin Verlander fastball into the left-field stands with his first big league swing.
Michael King started for the Yankees, navigating five innings of one-run ball, touched only by Kyle Tucker’s first-inning sacrifice fly in a 69-pitch effort.
