Peter Dundas will be heading to Paris Fashion Week for Fall 2023. Looking forward to walking the runway again – it’s been nearly four years since he showed his signature collection on the runway – as he gave his Pre-Fall collection a new look. Body Glove-inspired slinky knits were out and a more soigné mood was in. The collection’s boudoir vibe was due in part to the location, the bedroom of Los Angeles art collector Eugenio Lopez, and the sexy presence of his model, Paris Jackson, but more to Dundas’ instinctive use of more black than usual. “My girlfriends always ask, ‘Can I wear black?'” he said via Zoom from his Los Angeles home.
It pays to get the opinion of your girlfriends. The little black dress is timeless, whether it’s a burnt-velvet long petticoat with Celtic tattoos or a “two-piece” corset and pencil skirt combo. Dundas also worked with red and white velvet, which he cut into oversized suits and added a hint of fuchsia to a long, open-back T-shirt dress. The wave-print stretch-jersey brought to mind Keith Haring, but he said the lively pattern was actually pulled from a vintage Korean camouflage print. They are the outliers here. “I found myself taking off more than I put on,” he says. Dundas is too sensual to qualify as a minimalist, but this collection is the pre-Paris palette cleanser he says he wants.
