Eddie Alvarez 'amicably' parted ways with ONE Championship, entering free agency

Eddie Alvarez is a free agent again.

The former UFC lightweight champ officially parted ways with the ONE Championship after signing a lucrative multi-fight deal with the ONE Championship in 2018. Following an initial report by the South China Morning Post, Alvarez confirmed the news via Twitter.

“Confirmed, I am no longer with ONE,” Alvarez wrote. “We parted ways amicably and I have a great relationship with the ONE team. I would like to thank Chatri [Sityodtong] for the opportunity and I look forward to seeing them continue to be successful. I am officially a free agent and ready to hunt. Tell me next Who is it?”

Alvarez left ONE with a 1-2 record in four matches with the organization.

Following Timofey Nastyukhin’s brutal first-round knockout victory over Alvarez Spoiled debut as part of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix. Alvarez later re-entered the race as a substitute, defeating Eduardo Frajan by submission, but then withdrew from the Grand Prix due to injury.

Alvarez suffered a no-game match after Iuri Lapicus was unable to follow a shot that was initially deemed illegal. ONE later overturned the disqualification as not competing.

Alvarez lost to future lightweight by unanimous decision in his final bout with ONE in April 2021 Champion Ok Rae Yoon.

ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong later revealed that Alvarez had made an offer to compete in the ONE X card in 2022, But he said the Philadelphia native “rejected” the fight against Saygid Izagakhmaev. This is the last battle booking rumored to be before Alvarez pulls out of the promotion.

No word yet on what Alvarez might end up with but now that he’s parted ways with ONE Championship, he’s free to make the cut with anyone Sign up. Before competing in the UFC, Alvarez was a Bellator MMA stalwart, a two-time lightweight champion.
