Is there anything more exciting than watching someone enter their fashion era? The latest to emerge from the cocoon is Eddie Redmayne. The year-old actor wore a gorgeous sequined sheer top to the GQ
Man of the Year Awards on Thursday in Berlin. The see-through Gucci resort look is not for the faint of heart, but the mix of bare skin and sequins provides a very bold and eye-catching statement.
This suit is Redmayne’s latest knockout moment. Redmayne’s style has definitely improved since working with in-demand stylist Harry Lambert (whose client list also includes Harry Styles, Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor). In previous years, Redmayne could count on professionally tailored suit moments. This fall, however, the star has transitioned to sleeker, more casual looks, like a fuzzy sweater from Marni paired with exaggerated wide-leg trousers. Redmayne’s moment of sheer feels like an official statement: He’s a fashion kid now.
These days, male actors seem to be more and more accustomed to showing their skin on the red carpet. Menswear pioneer Timothée Chalamet hit the Oscars carpet early this year in a blazer and no shirt. Then he decided to show off his back in a Haider Ackermann halter at the Venice Film Festival. Jerrod Carmichael went shirtless and in a big fur on this year’s Emmys red carpet. Elite Actor Manu Ríos hits the Met Gala red carpet in a peek-a-boo lace suit by Moschino.
Menswear will likely only get bolder and livelier in the coming year as more and more unlikely players join the fashion trenches. We’ll be watching closely.
