Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis at the Australian Film InstituteTelevision Arts ( AACTA) Industry Awards Monday, while crime series prequel Mystery Road: Origin on TV Some received top honors.
The AACTA Industry Awards, hosted by Australian screen veteran Rove McManus, took place at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney’s historic entertainment precinct – the first time the show has hosted the pandemic in person since its inception The beginning of the disease. Luhrmann’s Elvis nearly swept Monday’s categories with seven AACTA Craft Awards, including a double for Best Costume Design Catherine Martin won Best Production Design and Mandy Walker won Best Cinematography, the first woman to win an Australian DOP Award. The film also won awards for Best Editing, Best Sound Effects, Best Visual Effects, and Best Hair and Makeup.
Elsewhere, Thomas M. Wright won Best Screenplay for The Stranger. A Stitch In Time won Best Independent Film, and The River three-time AACTA Award-winning documentary Sequel to The Mountain *), which won best documentary honors.
On the small screen, Mystery Road: Origin won four AACTA Awards for Best Television Cinematography, Best Editing, best direction and best sound. The Bunya/ABC-produced series competed in six more categories at Wednesday’s main awards show.
