Emotional 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' on set pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman's legacy

[This story contains Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spoilers.]

The Last Hour of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Fulfilling Marvel Promise, in Losing Actors , respect the past and look to the future Chadwick Boseman .

End-credits scene After Shuri (Leitia Wright) finally spends time alone mourning her brother King T’Challa (Boseman), the film The late Boseman passed away unexpectedly from colon cancer . At the beginning of Wakanda Forever, Shuri is seen buried in work, unable to face her anger and guilt over her brother’s death, while her mother Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) Encourage her to find the end. While battling grief, Shuri dons the mantle of the Black Panther and emerges from a conflict that could bring destruction to her world. Until the end of the movie, Shuri ceded the throne to Mbaku (Winston Duke), the young Watt Candan was finally able to take the time to deal with her grief.

She travels to Haiti and accepts a previous offer from Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) to live with her. Earlier in the film, the audience learns that Nakia moved to Haiti to work as a school teacher – which was triggered by the filming of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War , where T’Challa disappeared (before being brought back some time, after the Avengers: Endgame event).

In the film’s final scene, Shuri, following the advice of her late mother, performs the Wakandan ritual and burns the funeral dress she wore in T’Challa’s ceremony . What follows is an emotional montage of flashbacks, as Shuri remembers smiling times with her brother—the film shows Boseman’s old footage for the first time.

At the scene, the audience returned to that moment. Shuri sits in front of the beach fire, joined by Nakia and a six-year-old boy named Toussaint (Divine Love Konadu-Sun). Nakia introduces the boy as her son, explaining that he is also Shuri’s nephew and T’Challa’s son. For a moment, Shuri’s eyes filled with obvious emotion, and the boy told his aunt that his Wakanda name and title was Prince T’Challa, son of King T’Challa. This is a throwback to the originalBlack Panther movie, in which T’Challa himself declares: “I am Prince T’Challa, son of King T’Chaka!” Damm When Baku challenged him for the throne.

Shuri raises the important question of whether her late mother knew, and Nakia assures her that Ramonda does, and is even able to meet her grandson. Nakia explains to Shuri that she and T’Challa secretly own Toussaint and ultimately decide to let him lead a normal life away from the pressures of the Wakanda throne. It’s a poignant scene that ends Shuri’s complicated journey of mourning her brother, while also marking a new, hopeful beginning for the hero. While Shuri will never be able to replace T’Challa in her life, she can now continue their family love and legacy through his son.

Direct heir to the throne of T’Challa, the young prince arrives at MCU means he could end up being Black Panther and, one day, King of Wakanda. While Mbaku’s current claim to the throne could complicate matters, Toussaint’s rise could take years to materialize until he’s an adult.

In the comics, King T’ Challa does have a son named Azari from Next Avengers timeline. He exists in a multiverse called Earth – 10943, in which T’Challa and X-Men Storm had a romantic relationship that eventually gave birth to A son has the mutant powers of his mother and the panther-like qualities of his father. In this alternate timeline, Ultron (the AI villain in the second Avengers movie) wins, eliminating the Avengers and ruling Azari’s universe. Thus, the next Avengers was born, in which Azari and the other children of the late Avengers stood up and defeated Ultron’s regime once and for all.

While Toussaint is clearly different from Azari, it opens the door for Marvel to merge comic book and movie storylines in the future for T’Challa’s son. With the multiverse, anything is possible.

After the credits are completed Wakanda Forever , there is no end scene, but a screen that tells the audience “Black Panther will be back”. While the third Black Panther has yet to be announced, there are several existing paths for Shuri and Wakandans to return to the MCU. Introducing Ironheart or Riri Williams in the movie, (Dominic Thorne) opens the door to a potential Black Panther appearance on next fall’s Ironheart show. Additionally, Black Panther has previously appeared in movies from the Captain America and Avengers franchises.

For now, get the audience thinking about Boseman’s legacy and imagining what comes next. 10943
