Ewan McGregor ( The Star Wars franchise, Ho Elston, Trainspotting) will lead the upcoming Paramount+ British TV series Gentlemen of Moscow , based on Amor Towles’ bestselling novel, will begin production later this year and will be released on Premiered in the US Showtime and Paramount+ International.
This program is jointly produced by eOne and Paramount International studio unit VIS Production According to the plot description, the globe will see McGregor play Count Alexander Rostov “who, after the Russian Revolution, discovers that his gilded past puts him on the wrong side of history”. “Without immediate execution, he was banished by a Soviet court to an attic room at the luxury Metropolitan Hotel, where he received death threats if he stepped outside again. The most turbulent decades in Russian history lie outside the hotel’s doors as the years go by. Unfolding, Rostov’s diminished environment allows him to enter a larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the hotel’s walls, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.”
McGregor, who is also executive producer on the show, said, “It’s an amazingly good story, and I’m thrilled to be playing such a fantastic role.”

This is the first premiere deal through eOne with Tom Harper’s company, Popcorn Storm Pictures. Harper ( War and Peace , Peaky Blinders will also join forces with Xavier Marchand ( Nautilus , Mrs. Harris to Paris ) and Thors.
