Fed's Harker: Any U.S. recession will be mild

(Reuters) – Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank President Patrick Harker said on Friday he believes the central bank can bring down inflation without triggering a deep recession and high unemployment.

“We don’t want to do this right now in a way that suppresses the job market,” Harker told Bloomberg Television in Jackson, Wyoming. Fed officials have gathered there for the meeting.

“If there is a recession, it will be shallow,” he said.
