'Fifth Avenue' canceled after two seasons on HBO

The crew and passengers of Avenue 5 will not return to Earth.

HBO has canceled Armando Iannucci’s space comedy after two seasons. The show’s second and final season aired its finale in November 28, with the ship rescued from disaster, but the future is decidedly uncertain.

“Going to space with Armando Iannucci has been an incredible journey,” HBO said in a statement. “While we will not be moving forward with a third season of Avenue 5 , we look forward to many more adventures together.”

Iannucci wrote the multi-Emmy award-winning Veep for HBO and helmed the premium cable comedy pilot with director Sam Mendes et al Executive Producer)The Franchise, about making superhero movies.

Avenue 5 Set on a space cruise ship, it follows various misadventures for the crew and passengers. Hugh Laurie leads a cast that also includes Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Rebecca Front, Suzy Nakamura, Lenora Critchlow, Nikki Amuka- Bird, Andy Buckley and Ethan Phillips. Earlier this week, Laurie joined the cast of Tehran on Apple TV+, And also in Netflix’s upcoming All the Light We Can’t See.
