Finding Archives Vintage with 'SNL''s Chloe Fineman

Vintage is increasingly popular on the red carpet as a way for celebrities to showcase their fashion knowledge. The fierce competition to put a celebrity on the dossier can sometimes feel disingenuous, but Fineman has been a proven thrift since growing up in California. “I’m from San Francisco. It’s in your blood,” said Fineman, who looked coquettish in a John Galliano-era Dior denim camouflage jacket worn with a saddle bag and a pleated denim Chanel skirt. “I’ve been buying vintage since middle school and I was definitely a vintage kid in high school.” Her favorite pieces are from the years The vintage fitted cardigan she’s been wearing since high school. She notes that it’s “kind of like a Celine cardigan. I’m doing something”

Most recently, Fineman was inspired by Cate Blanchett’s Oscar-nominated Cut-obsessed character in Tár. “I took it to an insane level. This summer, I discovered the tank top and pants combo. I was crazy, so I had so many tank tops. But then New York got colder, So I became Annie Hall,” she said. “The most important thing for me is not to wear sweatpants at work.”

She and her colleague Heidi Gardner like a lot of the same things, refer to the gray Rouje bag she carried to Vintage Grace. (Gardner has a leopard print version). “We do copy each other in certain things,” she said. “We dress very differently, but we like a lot of the same things.” Recently, she has a soft spot for a Saks Potts fur-trimmed coat à la Gardner. In its place was a vintage gray Emanuel Ungaro jacket with a bulky fur collar. “It’s even cooler!” she said.

Fineman wears a strapless Christian Dior dress with a draped train gathered into a puff hem. For a minute, it seemed like she had just stepped off the Cannes red carpet. She also seems to be getting used to her new “act-ohhr” vibe. “Being here today, I feel like I’ve become more like myself,” she said. “It’s a fashion afternoon of self-actualization, self-awareness. Here’s what I wear!”
