Google completed its acquisition of Fitbit last year and renamed it “Google’s Fitbit,” but Fitbit continues to roll out wearables just like it did before the acquisition. While customers can currently use their Fitbit account for new devices and services, that will change starting 2023.
Fitbit has updated its support page to show that at 2023 the launch of a Google Account on Fitbit, “Some uses of Fitbit will require a Google Account, including registration Fitbit or activate newly released Fitbit devices and features.”
However, after launch, existing users with Fitbit accounts can choose to transfer their Fitbit data to their Google account, or Continue to use existing Fitbit devices and services as long as your Fitbit account is supported, at least up to 2025.
Fitbit says Google Accounts on Fitbit will “provide many benefits to Fitbit users, including single sign-on for Fitbit and other Google services, industry-leading account security, Fitbit Centralized privacy controls for user data and more for Google on Fitbit.”
If you’re concerned about sharing your fitness data with Google, you should know that Google will comply with its decisions with global regulators ‘s binding commitment to complete the Fitbit acquisition and, as a result, it will not use Fitbit Health and Wellness Google Ads data.
