Benindi’s hamate fracture, requiring surgery
After the Yankees’ 2-1 win over the Yankees , manager Aaron Boone said Benin Tendi had been diagnosed with a fractured hamate hook in his right hand and required surgery for the Rays at the Tropicana Stadium on Sunday. The Yankees hope to have a clearer timeline for Benin Tendi’s return soon.
“When I experienced this before, it was about a few weeks,” Benin Tendi said. “We’ll see what happens. Obviously, I want to get back there in time for the second half of the season and then, hopefully, the playoffs. It’s too early to say.”
Boone also told him in 2001 had experience with the surgery and said he did not expect it to be the case for Benin Tendi at the end of the season.
“everyone^s different. Every procedure heals a little differently,” Boone said. “[But] no, I think the possibility of his return is still in play. You never know how the surgery and treatment goes.”
Giancarlo Stanton on the active roster, But hasn’t played in the outfield since returning from the injured list in August 13. Harrison Budd, acquired from the Cardinals on Aug. 2, is on the verge of a minor league rehab assignment and could be a factor later this month.
“It’s just a mix and match,” Boone said . “Hopefully it creates opportunities for those who knock on the door.”
Benintendi is An American League All-Star with the Royals this season and acquired by the Yankees ahead of the Aug. 2 trade deadline in exchange for minor league players Chandler Champlain, TJ Sikkema and Beck Way.
