Sonya Eddy, an actress best known for her role in the long-running soap opera General Hospital, has died. she55.
Eddy’s friend and actress Octavia Spencer announced Eddy’s passing on Instagram Tuesday, writing: “I My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost yet another creative angel. She will be missed by her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends and fans!”
General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini also paid tribute to Eddie via social media.
“My heart breaks at the loss of the incredible @TheRealSonyaEd. I truly love her not only as an actress but as a friend. The lights in the center of the nurses station will now be slightly dimmed , but her spirit and light will live on on the show and on our sets,” he wrote. “On behalf of the entire #GH cast and crew, our deepest sympathies go out to her family, friends and fans. She will be greatly missed.”

Eddy’s business partner, who along with the actress owns Eddy Ford Entertainment, told THR, “It is with the heaviest heart to announce that my business partner, creative soul Partner and best friend Sonya Eddy has passed away suddenly. She left an indelible mark on everyone she came into contact with, on and off screen.”
Cause of death has not been announced.
Eddy is a Concord, CA native who started her acting career on Ruby Dee’s Zora Is My Name! West Coast Premiere The Crucible, Pericles, Into the Woods and South Pacific, for which she received an Art Award.
Eddy is best known for her role as Epiphany Johnson on General Hospital. She started starring in a long-form soap opera , the last episode of which was Nurse aired on Nov. moon2020. She also appeared in SOAPnet’s serial 2007 TV series General Hospital: Night Shift serve the same role.
Eddy’s career has spanned film and television, with TV credits including ER,Akka Joan of Dia , The Drew Kelly Show , Glee and Seinfeld . Other credits include In Case of Emergency, CSI, Everybody Hates Chris, Daybreak, Malcolm in the Middle, Fresh Off the Boat,The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray,PEN08, Black Ladies Sketch Show , Reba and so on.
In film, Eddy’s credits include Coach Carter, Bad News Bears , Barbershop, Daddy Daycare, Matchstick Men ), Seven pounds and survived Christmas. She appears in Hallmark Movies Reading Room , across from James Earl Jones.
Eddy also appears in 2005 Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was produced at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles with John Goodman and Brenda Fricker.
