It might take 10 seasons, but it looks like Geno Smith has finally unlocked his potential.
The veteran quarterback led the Seattle Seahawks to a 17-16 victory over
defeated the Denver Broncos in the 2022 season opener of Monday Night Football . Smith had one of the best games of his NFL career, going 23-for-28 for 195 yards and two touchdowns. The 31-year-old was almost flawless in the first half, completing his first 13 passes. He shows why he was named Seattle’s starter instead of Drew Locke, who was acquired as part of a blockbuster offseason deal that sent longtime Seahawks signal caller Russell Wilson to the Broncos. Wilson was 29 of 42 for 340 yards and a touchdown. Smith’s performance has drawn widespread acclaim on social media, with many believing that he has finally reached the level he achieved in 2013 The form expected when coming out of West Virginia. It wasn’t a fluke. Jayno Smith is the real deal. The Jets & New York media got him dirty. pic.twitter.com/yheQmUOQQ2
Matthew Friedman @MattFtheOracle What if Jayno Smith was really the QB the Jets have always needed? Darren Rowell @darrenrovell
If we got this Jayno Smith when we were on the Jets, we’d win the Super Bowl.
I can’t believe what I saw from Geno Smith tonight.
I’m old enough to remember Geno Smith watching a movie at the start of a team meeting because he confused time zones.

Geno Smith won over this fanbase tonight with a brave performance.
Yes he’s great for the most part but he shows his heart and is willing to give it his all. 12 year olds need to watch #Seahawks
I’m really for Geno Smith Be happy because if the first time doesn’t go well, black QBs rarely get a second chance, if not all of them, and he showed up tonight.
Keith Bullock @kbull53 Gino Smith played like him at West Virginia The last time Smith was a full-time starter was on him The first two seasons of the season. When he was with the New York Jets, the NFL. Those were scary years, but he has shown in recent seasons that he has matured into a solid player.
Smith admirably fills in for Wilson who fell last season with a finger injury. In four of his three starts, Smith threw for 702 yards and five touchdowns on one interception, completing 68.4 percent of his passes. The Seahawks will be surprised if Smith can keep playing like he did on Monday. Seattle was poised to rebuild, but Smith proved he could lead the team to success. Smith and the Seahawks will try to maintain momentum in the San Francisco 49ers’ NFC West matchup on Sunday.
