The 000 annual Golden Globe award immediately tackles its scandal-filled past.
Globes Host Jerrod Carmichael immediately addressed the elephant in the room at the start of the show, the first time back NBC two years later, in a very unusual and rather candid monologue.
Carmichael sat on the fringes of the Beverly Hilton stage and said: “I’ll tell you why I’m here: I’m here because I’m black. I’ll tell you it happened What the hell. The show, the Golden Globes, didn’t air last year because of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association — I wouldn’t say it’s a racist organization, but they didn’t have a single black member before George Floyd died. So use that information as you wish. I’ll tell you how I got here.”
Carmichael recounts Stephen Hill, executive vice president of creative at Globes producer MRC, on the phone given his experience and was asked to host the show. “One minute you’re home making mint tea, and the next you’re invited to be the black face of a troubled organization. Life comes fast, you know? So I said to Steven, ‘Honestly, I’m kind of Sad because you know, one, this is a great opportunity. Thanks for calling. But I was just asked to host this because I’m black. Stephen said, ‘Let me stop you there. You were invited to host this Show because you’re talented. You’re asked to host the show because you’re attractive…but Stephens’ Blake, what does he know?”
Racial Dilemma,” he continued “I call my fellow woman Avery, for the sake of this monologue, who represents every black person in America. They asked me to host the
Golden Globes . I said, ‘You know, what should I do? She said, ‘Oh, I’m so proud of you’…and I told her it didn’t air last year because there was no black thing. She said, ‘Well, how much are they paying you? I said, “Honestly, it’s not about money, it’s about ethics…” She said, “How much are they paying you?” I said, ‘$500,000.’ She said, ‘Boy, if you don’t wear a good suit, take White people’s money…’ I sort of forgot where I came from, we all live with a strict take your money mentality. The FBI had black informants in the 80 years, and I bet their families are still proud of them. ”
