Allegedly NEW AND IMPROVED The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has revealed the nominated number Golden Globe Awards Ceremony Monday morning. Elected by 96 members of this organization (this number indicates that some members may have lost votes Right since the last public count) and 24 international voters (with members Different, they are not all journalists, including quite a few black people, will not get paid $45,,(Picks per year), Picks The announcement was not aired or broadcast live. This goes against tradition and isn’t exactly NBC’s strong support for the Globes telecast, NBC recently found a way out of the Globes broadcast deal with the HFPA which was supposed to pass , but will now end after the celebratory ceremony 2003 Movies and TV shows on Tuesday nights in January Playing .
Movie nominations aren’t as outrageous as they have been in years past (see: Burlesque , salmon fishing in Yemen , tourists and The classic comedy The Martian ). Critically acclaimed Searchlight film The Banshees of Inisherin has the most nominations with eight, ahead of Bold Two items*) EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE. And Brendan Fraser, A of stars of whales , were correctly Nominated for best actor in a drama despite promise to avoid acting in because of involving inappropriate touching by the then-Chairman of the HFPA.
But there are still some quirks.
Critical Advocacy of UARWomen Talking Not nominated for Best Drama or Best Director (Sarah Polley), and any member of its larger ensemble (including Rooney Mara , Jesse Buckley , Claire Foy and Ben Whishaw , the latter two had previously Golden Globe winner) was also recognized — but Polley’s screenplay was nominated for best screenplay, making her film the only nominee in the category not to win the top prize.
Excellent British character actress Lesley Manville for best Best Actress nomination in a Motion Picture Musical/Comedy for Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris , a rather obscure Focus film, in July Released and largely forgotten since, but not in Best Supporting Actress in a TV Show The Crown , in which she played Princess Margaret .
and none of the names were awarded
Aftersun, Armageddon Time, Causeway , Corsage , Hustle , Lady Chatterley’s Lover, A Man called Otto , not , Thirteen Lives or Till — but menu and RRR received multiple nominations respectively.
For me, the most noteworthy thing about this year’s global nominations in terms of cinema – not necessarily a “good” thing or a “bad” thing, but just a definite Unmistakable pattern — how much they’ve skewed toward non-Americans who’ve been in the bubble or on the fringes of awards conversations rather than highly touted American contenders.
Elvis not only won Best Drama and Best Actor in Drama (Austin Butler) and Best Director in Australia Baz Luhrmann outperforms other American directors of Best Picture nomineesBabylon (Damien Chazelle), Tár( (Todd Field) and Top Gun: Maverick (Joseph Kosinski).
Luhrmann’s fellow Australian Hugh Jackman was nominated for b despite the of this movie being The Son Percentage on Rotten Tomatoes, beats Tom Cruise , Top Gun Star: Maverick (I’m sure Cruise made him The return of the three Golden Globes to the HFPA did not endear him to the group). and Mexican Diego Calva (Babylon) and British Ralph Fiennes (The Menu) is better than Tom Hanks (A Man Called Otto) and Adam Sandler (Hustle) Best Actor, Musical/Comedy.
Meanwhile, Brit Olivia Colman ( Empire of Light ) and Cubans Ana de Armas (Blonde) was nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Competition for her poorly reviewed film Actors – These movies are in 1235280265 percentage and 42 percentage on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing the star of several critically acclaimed films, Danielle Deadwyler ( until), Jennifer Lawrence ( Causeway ) and Zoe Kazan ( she said ). In the corresponding musical/comedy film category, the aforementioned British Manville ( Mrs. Harris goes to Paris ) and her country girl Emma Thompson ( Good luck, Rio Grande ) beat NYFA winner Keke Palmer ( No ), he’s clearly leading in the Ballon d’Or rather than supporting the category.
Speaking of pro-race, the Irish Barry Keoghan (
The Banshees of Inisherin) was picked over The Fabelman s’ Paul Dano and Judd Hirsch and Elvis Presley ‘ Tom Hanks , Filipino woman Dolly De Leon (The Triangle of Sadness) made the cut, while National Review Board winner Janelle Monae (Glass Onion: Mystery of the Wild ) and Gabrielle Union (The Inspection) No.
One last noteworthy thing about the movie nominations: In an era where streamers are said to be taking over the world, there is only one movie from one streaming service in both best picture categories One, Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knive s Out Mystery on the music/comedy side. (This is likely the same situation that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had when it announced its Oscar nominations in January, with a single Best Picture category 10)
The HFPA always loves to support new shows when nominated for TV, especially those at the Emmys Awards come after debuts, and this year is no exception. The leaders in TV are the ones who do well at the Emmys — ABC’s Abbott Elementary (five nominations) — but Other standout newcomers to appear since the ceremony include Netflix’s Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (four), Apple’s Black Bird (3), FX on Hulu’s The Bear (two), HBO’s House of the Dragon (two), FX’s old man (two) and Netflix’s new hit Wednesday (two). Somewhat surprisingly, the critically acclaimed Andor on Disney+ only has Diego Luna Best Actor in a TV Series.
Also noteworthy on TV: Paramount Network’s ratings juggernaut Yellowstone , now in its fifth season, has finally made the Golden Globes list for Kevin Costner First nomination for Best Actor in a TV Series category, who was chosen over Jason Bateman (Netflix coming soon Leave
Ozark), Paddy Considine ( Dragon House ) and Dominic West (crown). The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime Video , the long Globes darling, was completely shut out. And Domhnall Gleeson won Best Supporting Actor in a TV Show for his FX performance on Hulu Limited Series Nominated for The Patient , same year for his pop, Brendan Gleeson , was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for The Banshee of Inisherin .
