Google’s Pixel Fold is finally on sale in the US, UK, Germany and Japan. Additionally, we’ve now confirmed that Google and iFixit are expanding their partnership with foldable Pixel repair parts and instructions. A Google spokesperson confirmed to 9to5Google that the Pixel Fold will come with OEM repair parts, tools, manuals, and DIY repair guides. These will include screen assemblies, batteries and charging ports at launch.

This development will make the Pixel Fold the first foldable phone to offer user repair services. All other foldable phone makers offer in-house repairs, and user repairs will void their warranties. In addition to the iFixit repair tool, Google will also offer in-store and mail-in repair options.

Google also plans to offer an extended warranty option called Preferred Care which covers accidents after the device warranty ends Mechanical failure and accidental damage. Extended Warranty Service will be offered on a monthly basis or as a one-time payment option and will provide for repair or replacement of the device as needed. Google and iFixit haven’t fully detailed the scope of their latest partnership, but we should learn more in the near future.
