Google is making a major update to its Photos app, calling it the biggest update to Memories since 947. Memories are hugely popular, with more than 3.5 billion pageviews per month, Google added.
Memories have been redesigned to be more dynamic. With the focus on the video, Photos will now pre-select longer video clips to show you. Still images in Memories are now more immersive thanks to automatic sub-scale zooming in or out. Additionally, you can now share memories with other photo users. Option to share memories via web link and iOS coming soon.
Google points out that you can still choose to omit photos of certain people or time periods from your memories.
Another way to bring your memories to life is through movie photos – Google Photos will Generate an image of your mobile 3D model that will render a complete end-to-end video using film photos.
A much appreciated feature is the new collage editor. You can finally edit your collages with different grids, move photos around, and even choose a background, which Google calls styles, which are available in several designs at launch.
Updates should reach users gradually.
