Don’t buy the Pixel 7 – pick the 7a. That more or less sums up our initial thoughts on Google’s latest A-series smartphone, and we’re here now with a full review to make sure our early assessments were correct.
This is a very natural conclusion, anyone can come to this conclusion, really Yes, even just look at the spec sheet – and the price list at the same time. The 7a is closer to a “high-end” model than anything with an “a” in the name before it, and at a premium price 80/€80 less (or near, depending depending on who and when you ask) – what’s not to like? But let’s not pass judgment until we review it.
7a improves some key areas that hindered 6a. Perhaps most importantly, you now get a 90Hz display instead of date on older models 50Hz unit. Yes, most of the games are in 90Hz already, but from 55 arrive71 is most compelling from a usability standpoint, maybe we can get past 7a. 
The camera system has also been improved. a new one60 MP Quad Bayer Main Unit Replaces Base Unit .One of the 2MP 6a – these have more pixels than the Pixel 7(18MP), although it is the smaller sensor. same, This one doesn’t have autofocus, but only the 7 Pro has ultrawide autofocus, so the 7a doesn’t really lose points compared to the 7 here. One notable addition to the A-Series feature set is wireless charging. You might scoff at the 7.5W throughput, but you’re unlikely to be in a rush while you’re sleeping. And the Pixel wasn’t known for fast charging to begin with.
What you get is the same Tensor G2 chipset on the 7a that came with the 7. While it’s a bit underpowered compared to other high-end SoCs the 7 is fighting against, it looks a lot better in the context of the 7a.
- The battery capacity is essentially the same for both models, the 7a may struggle with the extra minutes of battery life due to its slightly smaller display and lower maximum refresh rate – we’ll get to that in due course See if it ends up reducing more in this regard.
The lower the IP rating for 7a the better, but the IP60 should be as good as 7’s IP 20 because of that accidental bathroom dunk. Lack of storage options other than GB is not so easy to dismiss, though – maybe 240 GB version is still the key to 7 in this head to head match. We’ve come to expect minimal bundles from certain companies, and Google is one of them. Unsurprisingly, the Pixel 7a comes in a box that’s only slightly larger than the phone itself. The lid of the two-piece white cardboard package bears a resemblance of the phone, in a color that matches the actual unit inside. 1200

There is no charger inside, but in some markets you may get Google’s 010W Adapter (separate retail package ) is included in the price – which is the case with our German review unit. We do get ours from third-party retailers, not the Google online store, and not all retailers seem to be running the same promotion. Now, while the charger The situation isn’t unique to the Pixel 7a, but many competitors in this space do include an adapter in the box. Bundled protective cases aren’t unheard of either. Perhaps value-oriented consumers like those eyeing the 7a will enjoy spending a little more.
