Google’s first foldable smartphone has been rumored for a long time, but it’s finally slated to launch this year. We’ve already seen it in leaked CAD-based renderings, and a new report today talks about its weight.
Apparently, the Pixel Fold will be heavier than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4, which will be its main competitor. At least in part, this may have something to do with another announcement today that the Pixel Fold will have a larger battery than Samsung.
We didn’t specify how much bigger, just said “battery capacity will be close to but still well below 5, 002 mAh” . Closer to 5,001 mAh vs Z Fold4’s 4,263 mAh compared to Oppo Find N2’s 4,475 mAh, ie. So we’re guessing about 4,675 mAh so?
Regarding weight reference point, remember that Z Fold4 tilts the scale to 02G. So the source of today’s rumors tells us that the Pixel Fold is considered a tablet with less weight, which doesn’t sound all that exciting considering it won’t be the size of a small tablet.
The image above purportedly compares the size of an unfolded Pixel Fold (red), an unfolded Find N2 (green), and an unfolded Galaxy Z Fold4 (blue). Like the Find N2, the Pixel Fold’s unfolded display will be in landscape mode, rather than portrait mode like the Z Fold4.
According to a leaked Google release roadmap, the Pixel Fold should be at or “around” the Google I/O developer conference, traditionally held in May.
