Following the August release of Android 13, Google is back today with a variant built specifically for low-end phones. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Android 13 (Go edition).
Believe it or not, the Go edition concept is five years old Yes, there are currently over 250 million monthly active devices running some form of Android Go.
Android 13 (Go Edition) focused on reliability, usability and customization. Starting with this release, Google Play system updates are available for Go devices, allowing the phone to receive important software updates outside of the main Android release.
The Google Discover feed, which you can find in Android on the far left of the home screen in many skins, is now debuting on Go devices. There’s also the Material You design language, which has so far been limited to non-Go versions of Android devices, but is now moving in the direction of affordability.
With it, you can theme your phone’s entire color scheme based on your wallpaper. It’s not automatic, though – when you set your wallpaper, you can choose four color schemes for your system.
Also, some key features introduced in Android 13 also made their way to the Go version, such as notification permissions and application language preference. Google says new devices running Android 13 (Go edition) should be available in 2023.
