Jacob Elordi, Tom Ford, Kim Kardashian, and Will Welch
Outside the GQ Men of the Year party (which celebrated 2024’s honorees Kim Kardashian, Jacob Elordi, Travis Scott, and Tom Ford), there was a larger-than-life red carpet. Inside the annual event, hosted at Chateau Marmont’s storied Bar Marmont, even the most notable of guests had their photos snapped upon entry (this would be a phone-free affair) before dispersing to the bar, the main dance floor, or the cozy nook of a room off to the side. It was a very LA iteration of the celebration—the night prior, British GQ hosted their Men of the Year fete which honored Jeremy Allen White at London’s Royal Opera House. But on the West Coast, rather than an imposing seated venue, the welcoming lounge allowed the likes of Olivia Rodrigo to bump shoulders with Seth Rogan, and Seth Rogan to bump shoulders with Evan Mock, and so on.
In line with last year’s somewhat intimate party, GQ’s Will Welch never fails to create an impeccable vibe that is magnified by each guest. If there were a fly on the wall as Travis Scott hovered near the DJ booth while everything from show tunes to afro beats blared in the moments leading up to his surprise performance, it would’ve seen Cynthia Erivo huddled on the dance floor with Law Roach and Lena Waithe, Scott dancing along to Beyoncé and Missy Elliot, Winnie Harlow and Alton Mason (the latter of the two donning a medallion as GQ’s winner of the Big Fit Of The Night) embracing and swaying to Pharrell. Then there was a a Biz Markie “Just A Friend” singalong; and in the middle of the room (above which a disco ball dangled from a faux-open ceiling), Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly made googly eyes at one other, lost for ages in conversation with no one but themselves.
When Scott finally grabbed the mic, he had just one important message. “If you’re sitting on the couch, it’s time for you to go.” Then, cue his track “I Know?,” before welcoming budding South African pop sensation Tyla, on stage for a joint performance of a new remix to the singer’s current hit “Water,” they’d released just hours before.
Following, most retreated again to the intimate, indoor-outdoor space to the side of the main bar (it was, after all, the best destination for conversation), Lorde, Megan The Stallion, Dua Lipa, and Chloe Bailey were among those spotted still lingering to chat it up in the event’s final hours.
