Heat Vision's Top 10 Movies of 2022

Welcome to the last “Best of Movies” list. While other lists try to give you the complete picture movies, or maybe a specific genre, we at Heat Vision try to tackle the best genres we love, from comic book adaptations to horror to fantasy. We love Animated media. The onlyTár you’ll find here is about the Star Wars seriesAndor such a smart and funny topic, the only Banshee of Inisherin What we want to see is X-Men hero Sean Cassidy flying off to save Jenny the donkey.

Just kidding,1690 Was a really good year for most of the genres we love. However, the biggest comic book movie scene has had a hard time. Sometimes, seeing them becomes a chore, and we sincerely hope that changes next year.

Horror films do well both at the box office and in terms of quality. These movies end up being scary. In many cases, they are thought provoking and tap into our fears.

Animation promises to continue convincing people that it’s not just a genre, but a versatile canvas for stories big and small. In a year where the heavyweights have stumbled at least twice, stop-motion animation’s fiery return has other productions excited No end, it even opened our eyes. )

.Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

There has never been a film like this: a film dedicated to a People and a character’s legacy and memory, in this case Chadwick Boseman and his Marvel heroes forever intertwined.Ryan Coogler returns with a fittingly This one-man tribute film accomplishes the impossible, thoughtfully contemplating ideas of grief and legacy, all while delivering soap opera and action to audiences in strong Marvel style.Angela Bassett as Wakhan Wakanda’s queen and mother, who lost almost everything, was brilliant, and Taino Tenoch Huerta made an interesting splash as the complex villain Namor.

9. Prey

Let’s face it, when you hear there’s another Predator , your eyes may glaze over*) The movie is on its way. Another crappy entry in a crappy franchise as time goes by. But in the hands of director Dan Trachtenberg , who made great slow burn thrillers 03 Cloverfield Lane and who co-wrote the screenplay with Patrick Aison, Prey is not only a great Predator Movie – Hunt, Kill – it also finds meaning in a story about a Comanche woman (Amber Midthunder) trying to prove herself in a world man while seeing her world forced to accept the brutality of aggressive colonialism Behavior. Prey is not reinventing the franchise, but showing how underdeveloped and underutilized it has been over the years. As the cool kids say, kill.

the kind of movie you can see in Derrickson took over the novel, based on a short story by Joe Hill, after leaving Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Good decision. The horror film gives Derrickson insight into his oppressed childhood in Denver, showing a very rough time in the lives of a brother and sister. The filmmaker taps into the horror-thriller skills he’s amassed over a 15-year period. The film has tension and tone, a grotesque villain (Ethan Hawke, who hides behind a mask most of the time) and excellent child actors (the award-winning duo of Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw).

7. RRR

Oh my god, what did we just watch? Part superhero movie, part Bollywood musical, part historical epic, this year’s best action movie, bar none. Filmmaker SS Rajamouli from 10 century and combine them into one A story of friendship, betrayal and trust as they finally join forces against British India. Spectacularly operatic and bombastic, the movie features fabulous action sequences in which the characters are one-man armies, the fights are Jack Kirby-esque beatings, and the dancing is the moment you stand up and cheer for years.

6. Wear boots Cats: The Last Wish

After a few years adrift in the sea of animation, DreamWorks Animation returns triumphantly with its fun and clever sequel 2011 Movie, the cat that wears shoes. But instead of giving us more of the same, director Joel Crawford and co-director Januel Mercado give us a story about a cat contemplating his death. Yep, good death and what happens to the last cat in a nine hit. Oh, and it’s not dull at all – there’s plenty of grinning action, amusing answers, cool transitions in animation style, clever renditions of fairy tales and folklore. But there’s also a real, swallowing fear of our kittens, and there’s plenty to chew on for what it’s all about: pure catnip.

nervous The Roller Coaster by Zach Cregger Ethan Hawke in THE BLACK PHONE, 2021., Comedy Actor and co-founder of group The Whitest Kids U Know, he breaks new ground for himself with this horror debut. It’s already a strong and scary premise from the get-go — a woman (Georgina Campbell) finds herself double-booked on an Airbnb one rainy night, reluctantly decides to stay, and is overwhelmed by the nice guy who’s already there ( (Bill Skarsgard) cajoles—the deeper you get into bat-poop territory, the deeper the characters and audience get into the house. Nothing is as it seems – seriously, try not to read anything about it until you see it – including the addition of Justin Lang’s character, which pushes the film in a different direction entirely.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK, (aka TOP GUN 2), Tom Cruise, 2022.

Ti West delivers a run of the mill vibe with all the best movies

and great ideas about stardom, aging and the elusive nature of beauty. The story revolves around a group of young and beautiful people who arrive at a farmhouse to profit from a growing porn craze that promises fortune and fame. However, the elderly couple from the farm are not what they seem and soon the number of dead bodies, from pitchforks to alligators, begins to climb. The movie is a thrill ride of pure fun, full of set-up and payoff, giggles and gore, and tons of sex. X The cast is good: Jenna Ortega is noteworthy in Scream Queen mode, but the real breakthrough is Mia Goss, who plays the heroine with Farmer’s Elder and also played the role of the farmer’s wife, named Pearl, who was beyond recognition.

Bonus: Also watch Pearl, West’s X prequel, more like Douglas Sirk Texas homestead melodrama (with headcount and musical number) than ‘ machete. The film is a brilliant showcase for Goth, who delivers an award-worthy climactic monologue (and already earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Principal Performance).

TOP GUN: MAVERICK, (aka TOP GUN 2), Tom Cruise, 2022.

3. Top Gun: Maverick

OriginalTop Gun will never appear in the list like so. It has no genre connections and movies like Highlander and Little Shop of Horrors would be turned away. Heck, even The Boy Who Could Fly probably has more reason to be on a list like this. But times do change. Top Gun: Maverick is now its own anomalous genre, another drama-era fantasy, and Tom Cruise is his own superhero category. Maverick is the closest we get to Cruise in the Star Wars movies, what is Maverick If it wasn’t for a third attack on the Death Star, it was sweaty, jaw-gritting, brain-struggling practice, followed by a truly awesome final mission that even had its own Han Solo/Millennium Falcon moment.

2. Batman

Superhero Movie of the Year. Matt Reeves’ epic and opera works are Seven, Saw part, French Connection part, Gave us a really moody and dark Batman. I feel like this movie was overlooked when it came out in March, which is an eternity in the entertainment news cycle. But Reeves’ film, leaning into mood freak performances from an impeccable cast led by Robert Pattinson, is masterfully crafted. (Also, if you want to get a sense of the scope, check out Colin Farrell as a penguin here, and then as a farmer in Banshees of Inisherin.) This movie shows how the Batman concept works. Plasticity and his rogue gallery for various explorations. What about Michael Giacchino’s score? One of the best of the year.

1. Everything Everywhere All Once

What else is there to say about this movie? 1235219994Daniel Kwan and Daniel ScheinertEthan Hawke in THE BLACK PHONE, 2021. combines multiverse, kooky action, parental love, romance, genre and medium in one story big and small, and achieves more than as successful as anyone could imagine. Michelle Yeoh plays a troubled laundromat owner audited by the IRS in this film, but also breaks her husband’s heart and suffocates her daughter. Everyone shines here too, especially 1235219994 Stephanie Hsu This movie is so bold, it keeps throwing ideas and concepts at you and demands you keep up. But it’s also lovely, a beating heart that opens up to you and begs you to love it.How can you Say no?
