As usual, this year’s Cannes Film Festival featured a slew of glamorous Old Hollywood looks, including Alaïa’s Tina Kunakey and Fendi Couture’s Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, among others. Elsewhere, anachronistic couture hit the Croisette, such as Elsa Hosk in Viktor and Rolf’s upside-down haute couture, and Rawdah Mohamed in Robert Wun’s “burnt bride” look. But last night’s amfAR fashion show event to raise funds for AIDS research, hosted by Queen Latifah, paid tribute to iconic moments in 18 fashion history.
Helena Christensen, Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabelle Fonta at the annual star-studded amfAR Gala Na and others walked the runway at the Cape Eden Hotel in garments that have earned their place in fashion history. One of the highlights of the night? Christensen wore the same legendary gown that Rihanna previously wore to Cannes. An off-the-shoulder Christian Dior gown with a flowing off-the-shoulder cape grabbed the headlines immediately (she also donned a matching white micro-hue for added superstar power). Fast forward to last night, when Christensen walked the runway in true supermodel fashion, wearing an exact replica of the dress — sans the sunglasses.
Other memorable fashion moments of the evening included Ambrosio’s crystal-encrusted Balmain X Beyoncé dress, jewel-embellished waist and powerful shoulders, and Fontana’s body-hugging Moschino springs in blue Exterior design by Jeremy Scott.
