Petco Park opened as the premier pitching park, but has since changed significantly. This season, it ranks in the top 10 in home runs allowed by left-handed batters.
Lamonte Wade Jr. may seem like an odd choice on the surface, But statistics don’t. Facing right-handed pitching, Wade’s ISO is 0.306. In his limited action this season, all eight of his homers came against right-handed pitching.
Ryan Feltner pitching in Colorado – No. 1. Feltner allowed the left-handed batsman 0.382 wOBA, 0.255 ISO and 2.16 HR/9 – No. 2. Plus, Feltner is also a fly-ball pitcher (45.2 percent), and he allows plenty of hard touches (38.5 percent) — a 3-ball.
Joc Pederson (+190) is a safer bet for home runs . As predicted by Garion Thorne on Friday’s “Sweat,” Pederson shrugged off a home run slump Friday night. He was in better shape Saturday night. However, it’s hard to ignore Wade’s lucrative odds.
Madison Bumgarner is not close to what he used to be. Still, he’s a solid rear-end swingarm. This is how good he was. But one of the best offenses in baseball should be him. Not only are the Cardinals one of the best offensive teams, they’re also the best left-handed pitching team. The lineup features wall-to-wall right-handed bats that can mash lefties.
Arizona doesn’t have the best offense, but St. Louis isn’t the greatest pitcher. Dakota Hudson had innings (110), but he allowed runs (4.17 ERA) and didn’t hit anyone (13.4 percent K rate). With an 83.9 percent touch rate, it’s a miracle he’s a .500 pitcher. His saving grace is that he can produce ground balls (52.8 percent) and is backed by the best defense in baseball. Hudson is unlikely to implode, but he will give up enough runs to push that total.
