There are a few lines that make me cringe every time I hear them in gym class. They’ll say, “Put it all on the floor!” or “Go all out, it’s IT!” As if any particular workout is critical, all-encompassing , the moments that define life. It’s as if your destiny is wrapped up in completing a burpee.
Hope you can see my goal. There are plenty of reasons not to force yourself into every workout. On the one hand, it won’t deliver “the biggest benefit.” Everyone’s body needs rest – yours is no exception. Maybe it’s extra hot outside, in which case it’s an especially good idea to take it easy. Maybe you’re hungover, tired, or stressed by something unimportant that’s draining your energy.

The reasons for exercising to relax may be different for everyone. It may mean less effort on your part – less repetitions reps, fewer cycles – or that might mean increasing rest periods between sets or lowering your weights entirely.
