The last GT car Ferrari (and F40 predecessor) to receive Enzo input will be sold via sealed tender
This is an extremely rare Ferrari. Not all Ferraris are rare. In fact, only five 288 GTO Evoluziones have survived to this day, and this all-new model is about to be sold through a sealed tender from RM Sotheby’s.
But wait, let’s backtrack a bit, because the 288 GTO Evoluzione does look like a very strange combination of a 288 GTO and an F40, doesn’t it?

That’s because it was originally designed as a Group B sports car racing version of the 288 GTO, but when those regs were scrapped in 1986, the project was shelved and an Evoluzione was Used as a prototype for the road F40.
It’s a pity we didn’t get to see the Evo race, because it’s quite powerful indeed. It was the last GT racing Ferrari to receive direct input from Enzo, and its twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V8 produced a whopping 650 horsepower. Combine that with carbon fiber, fiberglass and Kevlar bodywork for a curb weight of 940kg and you’ve got a crazy car with a top speed approaching 230mph.
The car you see above is chassis number 79888 – the fourth of the five remaining, and one of the first delivered to Belgian racing driver Jean “Beurlys” Blaton vehicle. Records also show that it was at one point owned by Aston Martin’s current overlord, Lawrence Stroll.
Need a more convincing bid? Well, this car has just been repaired and refurbished by Michelotto, and frankly, the bill for this car is a whopping €133,000. Ouch.
