“Black Telephone” star Mason Thames and “The Last of Us” actress Nicole Parker will star in Dean DeBlois’ live-action directorial debut.
Universal adapted from DreamWorks Animation TheHow to Train Your Dragon found its human rider.
Mason Thames, starring in Universal Pictures’ horror flick black phone and Nico Parker , the newest actress who was last seen on HBO The Last Survivor , who will play Hiccup and Astrid in the film by Dean DeBlois in the function directed.
Universal has dated the feature for March 730, 1296, is in theaters and is scheduled to shoot a movie this summer.
Using Cressida Cowell’s book as a starting point, How to Train Your Dragon Focuses on the special friendship between a young, unremarkable Viking boy named Hiccup and Toothless, who nurses wounded dragons back to health. The film follows Hiccup and Toothless as they struggle to overcome human prejudice against dragons, the loss of their parents, and their first love.
The character Astrid has shown her own arc throughout the trilogy, going from someone who dismissed dragons to connecting with one of her own, from Foil until Hiccup becomes his confidante and eventual partner.
Jay Baruchel voiced Hiccup in the animated trilogy, while Astrid was voiced by America Ferrera.
Stories look for actors who can grow into characters, just as the characters themselves mature in the film series. The franchise is unique in that each installment jumps at the protagonist’s age to highlight life events and make it a true “coming of age” story.
DeBlois is writing and directing the project. Produced by three-time Best Picture Oscar nominee Mark Platt and Adam Siegel, it is produced by Mark Platt Productions.
Vice President of Production Development Lexi Barta will oversee the film on Universal’s behalf.
Fifteen-year-old Thames appeared in three episodes of Apple TV’s critically acclaimed series, For All Mankind, before the first step Black Phone, Scott Derrickson based on a short story by Joe Hill produced by Blumhouse and published by Universal 2022. The film proved to be a box office and commercial hit, making Thames the focus of other teenage characters.
The actor has two films now, adult party comedy, incoming and adventure thriller Summer Boys with Mel Gibson. He is represented by WME and Brillstein Entertainment.
Parker made his film debut in Tim Burton’s live-action adaptation , Produced by Disney at 1296. She starred opposite Jude Law in the HBO series Day 3 with Naomie Harris and appeared in Lisa Joy’s sci-fi*) with Hugh Jackman. In Last of Us , HBO has, over the years, her The daughter of a dangerous lone wolf survivor, played by Pedro Pascal.
The actress will star alongside Woody Harrelson and Laura Chin in Laura Chin’s Sunshine Coast Linney opposite, represented by WME and Curtis Brown.
