Vertigo by Kim Novak )’s character, Judy Barton. “I’m fascinated by the duality of her character — she’s elegant and loose, dangerous and vulnerable,” the designer said via Zoom from Qingdao. “I was struck by her complexity and wanted to create a wardrobe that represented her in our own way, without the obvious.”
The entire collection is represented by Noah Wacker’s character. For example, a jeweled crepe midi dress with tulle sleeves. A sexy V-neck is placed on a fitted piece; it contrasts with ruched detailing. There was also a classic rust-coloured cotton-twill trench coat, a nod to Novak’s distinctive white coat in the film. It opens at the back to reveal an unexpected cape trimmed with the brand’s signature ostrich feathers.
Both the rich color palette and the Lookbook shoot itself are a nod to the style of Hitchcock’s films. The hues used throughout range from jewel tones of fuchsia and crimson to Dark shades of navy and brown vary. “We decided to shoot in a mid-century house in Southern California, which made sense aesthetically for reference,” Zhang said. “These photos were taken at dusk and dawn, exactly as I had envisioned.”
