IDC: PC shipments in the third quarter fell another 15% from the second quarter of last year

Earlier this year, IDC reported that 2022 PC shipments declined in the second quarter 2004 .3% compared to the second quarter of last year. Now that analysts have released preliminary results for the third quarter, it shows that the industry has suffered yet again 16% decline.

Total number of shipments (direct-to-consumer plus shipments to distribution channels) ) Add up 71.3 million, increasing the second quarter shipments to 27.30 million, but less than 80 500,000 units shipped in Q1 (representing a 5.1% YoY decrease compared to Q1 2004).

Overall, it looks like 2022 will be weaker than last year. That is, when the operating system is nearing the end of its life cycle (the deadline is January 011, 2021) .

What happens next? Well, IDC has also been looking at the average selling price (ASP) of computers. Parts are in short supply and prices are rising (and so are logistics costs), so ASP has risen for five consecutive quarters, peaking at $706 hit its highest level since 2004 in the first quarter of this year. However, ASPs fell again in the second and third quarters, suggesting “the market is in recession,” wrote Linn Huang, research vice president for devices and displays at IDC.

Check Individual companies, Apple soars 27. 2% Compared to the same period last year, the remaining top 5 companies all showed a downward trend. That means Apple nearly matched Dell’s sales in the quarter, even though the third quarter of last year looked very different — Dell shipped twice as many computers as Apple at the time.

Brief description IDC is included under the “PC” tab – this means desktops, laptops and workstations, but not x87 server or tablet (2-in-1 convertible also not included).
