Q1 Group 2
Despite the gloomy sky above the track, Group 2 also went out collectively in the preliminary race, despite the hard rubber, Pato O’Ward succeeded 1m09.9279s, three tenths ahead of his nearest rival. That was Jack Harvey, followed by Alex Palu. But the group didn’t seem to be reappearing on red for a long time, and traffic started to pile up.
O’Ward led team-mate Alexander Rossi with a stellar 1m09.2937s and was chased by Palou, Harvey, Kyle Kirkwood and Scott Dixon. Surprisingly, Kirkwood was the only Andretti car to pass, while Scott McLaughlin also failed to qualify.

Q1 Group 1
on major Firestones Bankers Circle, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Christian Lundgaard of Chip Ganassi Racing led Marcus Armstrong of Chip Ganassi Racing, with Felix Rosenquist third. With less than five minutes left, everyone ducked into the pits and bought a softer set of replacements.
Simon Pagenaud was the first to do a lap on these red cars, a 1m10.2625, but this was quickly eclipsed by Josef Newgarden’s 1m09.8402s. Then the clock ticked fast and fast as Marcus Armstrong hit P1 ahead of Lundegard with a time of 1m09.4639s ahead of both Marcus Armstrong and Will Bauer. In second place, behind Rosenqvist’s Arrow McLaren, Armstrong, Power and Marcus Ericsson. He, and the winning Ed Carpenter Racing team at the track, were also eliminated.
