Edward Enninful brought royal glamor to New York City last night. As host of the Prince’s Trust Global Gala, Enninful brings together the world’s leading philanthropists, titans and celebrities to celebrate the important work the organization does.
A convoy of town cars arrived on Cipriani South Street as the sun began to fade over the East River. In the magnificent venue, a dazzling crowd gathered. American fashion kings Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors mingled with European royalty. Kate Moss was a contemporary Greta Gabo in her dark satin gown – her diamond choker sparkling in the dim lights of the ballroom. Iman, a fashion icon of the century, stunned in a polka dot dress. Irina Shayk, with her curly hair curled up like Grease’s Sandy Olsson, was almost unrecognizable at the festivities, wearing a lace mini dress and green platform boots. Other beauties Precious Lee, Stella Maxwell and Winnie Harlow also milled around the room. Grammy winner Doja Cat drew attention as she slipped through the restaurant in lace and a fur cape behind her. The evening’s performer, Rita Ora, wore an old Hollywood white dress and gloves.
Not to be outdone by supermodels and divas, screen girls dress up too. Sienna Miller looked fresh and refined in a sheer camisole embroidered with delicate flowers. Eiza González shimmered in an array of sequined rusts. Kate Beckinsale was literally floating in a cloud of glow-in-the-dark yellow highlighter.
Of course, for all its visual spectacle, the gala aims to honor the Trust and its offerings Raise funds for life-changing aid. The Prince’s Trust was established on 1976 by King Charles II (then Prince of Wales). Initially, the organization focused on underprivileged youth in the UK. The Trust now operates globally, providing support, mentoring and education to young people in need.
While there were many stars in the audience, two were conspicuously absent. King Charles read a letter of apology to the crowd as he was busy preparing for his coronation on May 6. Global Ambassador and Chairman Lionel Richie sent a video message expressing his regret at missing the event, although his excuses were equally understandable. Last week, he walked his daughter down the aisle at the most-watched wedding of the year. Next week, he will perform at the king’s coronation.
