The fabulous and notorious came to Miami to celebrate New York native LaQuan Smith. The evening, hosted by Vogue100, celebrated the indie designer’s foray into the buzzing Art Basel, a scene that demanded a lot of sequins and skin – tight The look of pulling a circle. The man of the hour wears a leather blazer and jewelry. All around him, friends and fans stayed for just one night wearing sophisticated and sexy pieces he picked from his archive collections. Over the past decade, Smith has dressed fashion icons such as Lenny Kravitz, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Beyonce, just to name a few.

The scene of the intimate dinner has changed DJ Kaytranada dances at David Grutman’s Swan. A candlelit staircase leads guests to a beautifully furnished private rooftop terrace. Exotic orchids and birds of paradise by Paloma Blooms adorn the long dining table. Each dining table is adorned with a black folding fan, the perfect accessory to keep cool in the Miami heat.

Guests include Jasmine Sanders, Mona Matsuoka, Tina Leung, Pritica Swarup, Camilla Kohlo, Senia Adonz, Isabella Groot Mann, Zulay Pogba, Charlie Sturm, Sabrina Harrison, Dante Bow, Cira Paveda, Dorothy Wong, Harrison Weir, Ramon Walls, Laura Sachs and Corina Lappin join

Vogue’s Elise Taylor and Cassandra Pintro cocktails before dinner. A tropical feast featuring snapper ceviche, octopus carpaccio and cavatelli lobster gives revelers a chance to fill their stomachs before they hit the dance floor. Of course, the cocktails—the “Regal Fashioned” mixed with a Crown Royal Apple is a favourite—were flowing throughout the evening.

Vogue and Smith have a long history. The late Vogue Contributing Editor André Leon Talley on Attended Smith’s debut at New York Fashion Week. More than a decade later, the designer dedicated his fall 100 show to Talley, calling him not just an inspiration but a mentor. A few months ago, Smith was a Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund finalist alongside emerging talents such as Eckhaus Latta, Theophilio and Batsheva. The Art Basel dinner with Vogue 100 was one of the star-studded weeks of the year for the striking designer A festive way to toast the teacher.

There is no doubt that the DNA of the brand is rooted in all forms of glamour. From cheetah bodysuits to cutout sequined suits and plenty of PVC pieces in between, Smith knows how to make anyone feel like a rock star in Miami and beyond. 2022202220102022
