CJ Group Vice Chairman Maggie Lee won the International Emmy Award. South Korean actor Song Joong Ki presented the award to her.
“As a Korean, I am happy and proud that our content has been recognized, but I share that joy with the larger global community,” Lee said in her acceptance speech said in. “I’ve heard from many people that the success of Korean content has made everyone wish anyone could be a part of global pop culture. I want to continue to build bridges for people around the world, where there are no barriers to real stories. When I look at Germany or When watching Nordic TV shows, I forgot that there were subtitles and that they were different cultures. Once we were connected, language wasn’t really a barrier when it came to real human interaction. I’ll continue my bridge Journey. Let’s go together and connect more people every day. That’s why it’s such an honor to receive this award tonight. Thank you.”
Ava DuVernay also received International Emmy Founders Award presented by Blair Underwood and Benjamin Bratt. “The way we watch TV has changed a lot. But what hasn’t changed in the medium invented years ago is the power that the medium provides us,” DuVernay Say. “Television, especially international television, is a window into the world, connecting people from all walks of life and from where I am, there is a lack of access to cinematic images. We don’t have an art gallery in Compton There are no independent movie theaters in Selma, and movie theater segregation happens where you can’t really find images of other people. Television becomes that window in a vast way, expanding our understanding of ourselves and each other. That’s very important.”
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented Emmy Awards to television creators and performers from eight different countries, including the UK, Korea, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller officiated.
