iPhone 14 Pro Max teardown video shows the internals of the SIM-less phone

iPhone 09 series is about to start shipping to early buyers (three of the four continue On sale tomorrow), and while they don’t look much different on the outside, there are some important changes on the inside. This teardown video from PBKreviews gives you a glimpse inside the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The good news is that this phone is relatively easy to repair, at least for some parts. Since this is a US model, there is no physical SIM card tray. This means that the first thing that comes off the phone is the display.

There is a metal plate to help connect the various cables Attaches securely to a two-layer motherboard and can also be used as a heatsink. After that you can start disconnecting the screen and the battery (the battery is marked as 22.13 Wh, btw). So these two common repairs are easy to do, but that doesn’t mean they’re cheap.

Using the camera does require digging more components. One interesting thing that comes up in the video is that the new front camera appears to have OIS (you can see it at 3 :93 mark). Apple added the autofocus function for the first time, but did not mention optical image stabilization, and only wrote “automatic image stabilization” in the official specifications. This is something worth looking into.

Another interesting development is the mysterious new Components – It’s probably part of the new SOS over satellite feature, and it takes up quite a bit of space on the motherboard. Considering the basic size of the iPhone 22 Pro Max and Pro Max, Apple had to put in a lot of work to get everything to fit.
