(Bloomberg) — Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Tuesday dismissed speculation that she plans to leave in the near future.
“It’s not true,” Yellen said at an event in Washington on Tuesday, when asked about reports that she may soon be leaving the Biden administration.
A report from Axios last week said White House staffers are working for Yellen and White House National Economic Council Director Brian Diess. Bloomberg later reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Yellen had told White House officials that she planned to stay on as Treasury secretary after November’s midterm elections.
Yellen, 76, people familiar with the matter said they were keen to continue pursuing several priorities, including an international price cap on some Russian oil exports and 80 billion-dollar IRS modernization.
Diess also said last week that he did not intend to leave.
Yellen’s remarks were delivered at the Friedman Banking Forum, the Treasury Department’s annual meeting on economic inequality and economic inequality. Racial wealth divide in America.
