No place in the world celebrates the holiday season as magically as New York City. When the temperatures begin to dip, the concrete-lined buildings along Fifth Avenue dazzle in resplendent colors, transforming its cityspace into a display of holiday cheer. And last night, between 50th and 49th Street, a festive spectacle took place as Saks Fifth Avenue and Dior unveiled their mesmerizing mise-en-scene window display, Dior’s Carousel of Dreams at Saks.
The iconic flagship store was adorned with a colossal wheel of fortune—a reinterpretation of sketches from the Dior Cruise 2024 collection. The installation, stretching over 35 meters wide, showcases signature Dior codes; from stars and clovers to Zodiac signs, resting upon floating floral motifs. The inaugural showcase brought guests, including Jennifer Lawrence, Rachel Zegler, Lola Tung, Nina Dobrev, and Tracee Ellis Ross—chicly dressed in their best Dior looks—into the closed-down street of Fifth Avenue, bundled up in cozy blankets to keep themselves warm as the evening unfolded.
“For decades, we’ve presented our holiday windows and light show as our gift to New York City,” said Marc Metrick, CEO of Saks. “And this year’s gift is more spectacular than ever before.” Indeed, the evening opened with a butterfly choreography performed by dancers at the Martha Graham Dance Company, dressed in sheer navy blue costumes designed by the house’s artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who was also in attendance.
Delphine Arnault, CEO of Dior, expressed her excitement over the unveiling of the façade and the 24 unique window displays, which took over a year to conceive and create. “It is a dream come true to be here with you in the middle of Fifth Avenue to celebrate this stunning celebration,” said Arnault. “This unique takeover is a wonderful tribute to the dreams and magic of the holiday season. It shows creativity, joyfulness, and the savoir-faire of joy.”
After the performance, a spellbinding light show transformed the iconic New York City building into a canvas of vivid colors. Rich hues of blue, red, pink, and green illuminated, dancing in synchronization with the classical holiday music that played. The climax crescendos with a dazzling fireworks display, perfectly choreographed to the lights and music. Colorful sparks burst in harmony, leaving guests in awe of the spectacle that painted the night sky.
At the end of the show, attendees made their way into the chalet of L’Avenue at Saks to celebrate a magical evening with winter-inspired cocktails and delectable hors d’oeuvres, with hearts warm and spirits aglow to mark the beginning of a joyous holiday season.
